Robbo has asked me to add an article to the site which I have added to the Photo Gallery. It is the last one on the last page.This is what he put:

Charlie. Having been a little bored over the Xmas period I thought I would catch up on the tank magazine which is passed onto me usually about twelve months after issue. What caught my eye was this from the 1962 issue. Now I cant say I was aware of these thoughts at that time, but I was only twenty, and most likely they weren't uppermost in my mind. But what I found interesting was that I was actually reading the 2013 summer edition of the Tank, and a couple of pages on in the letters page there was a couple of letters advocating the exact thoughts of 50 years ago. It would seem that a General Deverell as spoken in favour of a single cap badge armoured corps. Now fifty years on with most of the old history of the old Regiments tucked away in Museums and forgotten, perhaps this is a good idea. Could you put this on the site please? It would be interesting to see what other members thoughts are. Many thanks robbo

Though we have all proudly worn the RAC cap badge during our younger days I would think that there would be a lot of heated discussions should the few remaining regiments have to loose what little individualism they have been left with.

Exactly my sentiments Dick and I would also add that the history of each regiment is something that is also sacred.

Thankyou for the two photos Julian as they bring back so many memories of my early days in the Boys Squadron.I joined in mid 1952 when the Squadron was still in the process of sorting itself out.In the Officers photo and I have to say here that these were the first Officers to serve in the Boys Squadron, the one that stands out to me personally is Lt Trotter. He was my Troop Leader when I joined as a boy as I said in mid 1952 and still my Troop Leader when I left as a B/Sgt in late 1954.
In the second photo some of the faces are recognisable espcially the headmaster as some of us used to call your late father,also the young Sgt with the glasses,who seemed to believe in teaching everything para fashion especially history.All in all they were a good bunch and got me through my senior certificate.These two photos will now go into my top ten in my Boys Squadron RAC album.Once again I say thankyou Julian....Stay well....Chalkie.

Chalkie, thanks it is a pleasure. A couple of notes from my Dad included the names of most of the Sgts and which were NS or Regular. He notes that the one in the middle of the back row (unnamed) had a degree in psychology and he had to stop him practicing his theories on his troop! Typical of the Army of that time, my mother was required to visit the Sqn instructors wives at home to see they were all content. As most of them were many years older than her, and with children, she found it a bit daunting, especially the one or two who told her where to go! Regards Julian

Greetings and thank you for allowing me onto your site. I have been going through my late father's things. He served in North Africa and Italy in the Infantry during the war and then rejoined the Army in 1950 as an RAEC Officer. He was posted to the Boys Sqn in 1952 on formation and spent a couple of years at Bovington. I have two photos that may be of interest; one of the Sqn Offrs (Tom Broadfoot (later RMP, I was at RMA Sandhurst with his son), Barry Sullivan (who drowned trying to save someone who had capsized in the Solent), Maurice Peters ('greatly respected QM of the' Skins') and my father (Capt Fergus Panton RAEC), Jeremy Taylor, Willie Trotter, Mike Alford. The second pic is of the RAEC instrs and includes Sgts Willsher, Sharpe, Hardstaff, Brealey, WO2 Cooper, Sgt Lane and others. If anyone is interested I will open an album and post them online here. Good to have you onboard. Although I never joined Boy's Squadron until 1955 I would still like to see the photo's you have made reference to so please open a new album .
